In the 2010s, I discovered that director Steven Soderbergh had been publishing an annual Seen, Read list- a January tradition attempting to document everything he had watched and read over the past year. I found it fascinating and wanted to try it myself.
But each time I attempted it, I lost track. As they say, life happens. Distractions come and go, and while I was constantly watching, reading, and listening, I didn't always capture everything.
Then, at the end of 2021- a year punctuated by lockdowns, introspection, and the need for entertainment- I realised I had actually completed my list. Great! But what next?
I wasn’t blogging anymore, but I still wanted to share this accomplishment. At the same time, I didn’t want to just copy Soderbergh’s format with a simple list (although it is very cool). What if I turned it into a collage instead? I did a test run and liked it. I even shared it with a few people.
And then… I forgot about it.
Until recently.
I revisited the idea and remade the collage using a different tool. Fortunately, I had never stopped capturing my yearly media lists, something I later learned is called a Resonance Calendar in Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) circles- a kind of diary of the things that stayed with me throughout the year.
So here is 2021- captured, curated, and collaged. Enjoy!

I’m curious to know which media in the collage people recognise (or don’t). Comments welcome.
2022-2024 collages coming soon.
